The deacon program was begun out of a need for assistance for pastors and vacant churches. A series of 10 Seminary courses are required to complete the deacon training. The pastor and deacon determine together the role the deacon may have as an assistant. The program in our area has produced five deacons and one parish assistant and there are four more taking the training at this time. Examples of the type of duties that the deacons are doing are

  • assisting in worship services
  • making hospital and shut-in visits
  • leading Bible studies
  • helping with a preaching station or vacant congregation.
