Jesus Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem
Jesus entered the city riding on a donkey with people strewing their cloaks before Him
and calling out “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the
King of Israel!” But did they really understand what Jesus was coming to do? They
expected Him to rescue His people, drive out the godless Romans, bring political
freedom, and usher in an era of peace and prosperity. When the same people saw
Jesus convicted by Pilate and condemned to die on a cross, they were not only
disappointed, they were angry. Their misplaced hope and false expectations made
them resent Him; they no longer had any use for Him.
We can fall into this same trap. But does Jesus really guarantee success in our earthly
days? No! Jesus clearly told the disciples to expect the exact opposite. He does
provide for us, but sometimes we prioritize our life circumstances and our personal
needs over our spiritual needs. Jesus came not as a war conqueror, but as the humble
and righteous Savior. He came to die so we would receive something much better:
peace that passes understanding, salvation from death forever.
