There's No Such Thing as a Stupid Question

In the Gospel lesson from Matthew 18:1-20, the disciples ask a question: "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." We may clap our hands to our heads in frustration, as the disciples have seemed to be a little too worried about roles and hierarchy the last couple of weeks. But Jesus takes this question and explains so much . . . a childlike faith, avoiding temptation, helping the weak and vulnerable, smoothing things out with our brothers and sisters, and always remembering Who we want to be with. "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." (Matthew 18:20) Jesus spoke with patience to his disciples. He chose humility, self-forgetfulness. He took on the form of a servant, even though He was (and is) the Almighty King. In Him we have been forgiven because he became the lowest of the low. Showing us that to give is the place of honor at the table.
