Spiritual Blindness, Spiritual Sight

You may have seen the viral video of the child in their eye doctor's office, seeing their parent for the first time. This moving visual reminds us of the miracle of sight as we see the joy reflected in the child's face. Physical sight is miraculous, and today's text from John, chapter 9, highlights not only that miracle—but also the miracle of spiritual sight. In this message, we are reminded of our theological temptation to reduce everything to a transaction. . . just as the observers in the story wanted to know whose "fault" it was that the man was born blind. Continuing, we learn that suffering, in this sin-broken world, can lead us to Jesus, whose sufficiency can bring something great out of something difficult. We are moved to understanding—the greatest gift are eyes of faith that see God as Savior as we accept the gift of an eternity with Jesus.
