16th Sunday of Pentecost
By showing us how saving faith and good works always belong together, the Holy Spirit rescues us from being deceived about the true nature of the Christian faith and good works so that both may work together for the good of our neighbor and our own eternal blessing.
1. The gift of rightly understanding saving faith in Jesus
a. A child-like trust and confidence that confesses truly
b. A busy, living, mighty, active thing!
2. The gift of rightly understanding the fruit of good works
a. When we abide in the true Vine Jesus, we bear much fruit
b. Good works serve our neighbor and prove that faith is living
3. The gift of saving faith and good works in their proper relationship
a. Reveals the secret of a healthy, growing Church
b. Provides real comfort, hope and light
