When our human concerns conflict with the things of God, Jesus gives us an opportunity to turn to God and change the way we think and act for the joy of seeing Him come with the angels in the glory of the Father.
1. Our human concerns are temporal and short-sighted
a. Suffering and death must be avoided at all costs
b. Eating, sexuality and ownership must be indulged
2. Conflict creates opportunity to turn to God and change
a. Conversion begins with a harsh, honest diagnosis
b. Ongoing struggle with a thirst for glory, envy, and pride
3. The things of God change our perspective on everything
a. Blessing in taking up a cross and denying oneself
b. Not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed
