Sixth Sunday in Easter 2021

May 9, 2021    Pastor Paul F. Becker    1 John 5:4–5

Loving God means doing what he tells us to do, and really, that isn’t hard at all; for every child of God can obey him, defeating sin and evil pleasure by trusting Christ to help him. But who could possibly fight and win this battle except by believing that Jesus is truly the Son of God?

Even as He has already overcome this wicked world and its pretend, evil, counterfeit ruler, Jesus invites us to share in His triumph by a life of love, trust and obedience to God as His dear children.

1.Overcoming the world by a life of love
a.Always God’s initiative and divine action
b.Always the response of our humble, thankful hearts

2.Overcoming the world by child-like trust and confidence
a.Children echo and reflect what they see and hear
b. God’s spoken and visible Words never change

3.Overcoming the world by a life of obedience to God
a.Imagine and receive the sinless life of God’s Son
b.Made easier by cultivating holy habits
