Help Wanted

You’ve likely stepped into a shop or restaurant and seen a “Help Wanted” sign. Such notifications make us aware of a need. The poster is hopeful that someone will read that sign and answer that need. That’s what our text, In Matthew, chapter 9, describes. “Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.” (Matthew 9:35)

Jesus didn’t just work hard . . . he felt real compassion for the people: “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:36-38) That’s the Help Wanted part!

Jesus feels that same compassion for us that he felt for the people that day. He also calls us to feel that compassion for others, that we might share this Good News with others. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. He came to call the lost and ALL the world needs what Jesus has. . . what we have, and what we can share. Through the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to step out and proclaim the forgiveness of Christ that abounds in our lives. He came for each of us. He comes for you. He sends you.
