24th Sunday of Pentecost

As Jesus the Bridegroom appears to delay His glorious reappearing, He gives both a strong warning against false security and a clear indication how being awake we may watch with Christ and asleep we may rest in His peace. 

1. Jesus the Bridegroom appears to delay His glorious reappearing

a. Engagement, Betrothal, Marriage Feast – undetermined interval 

b. No time to get ready, we simply must be ready 

2. Jesus gives a strong warning against presumption and false security

a. A disciple has both joy / comfort plus challenge/spiritual danger 

b. Frightening possibility of being unprepared/ unable to welcome Him 

3. Jesus tells us how to keep watch with Him and rest in His peace

a. Individually we turn to God and change the way we think and act 

b. As members of the Body we together receive life and salvation
