Where Jesus Waits
Have you ever had a time in life where you needed help? I mean, immediate help, like a health crisis or a "I'm stuck in this hole and can't get out" or "the pot's boiling over and I don't know what to do?" At times like these, we want help now. Not later, not in a few minutes. Now. This is how Mary and Martha felt in our text today. Their brother Lazarus was sick, and they needed Jesus to come. They knew Jesus loved them, so they called to Him for help. . . . and Jesus waited. We learn, as we continue in the text, that His waiting did not mean indifference or lack of love. Rather, the delay was because of His love. It was to glorify God in ways Mary and Martha hadn't even thought of. And now, in our earthly days, we call for help, we cry out to Jesus. We know he always hears, but sometimes we wait. Sometimes He waits, in love. So we trust, even when we don't understand. . . and we pray "May the peace that passes all understanding keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Amen.
