A Healthy Sense of Skepticism
These days, where scams and deceptions are something we all have to watch out for, a healthy sense of skepticism is essential. In this message, Pastor Gray considers the Apostle Thomas—the one we call “doubting Thomas,” from our Gospel lesson. We can relate to Thomas’ position of doubt. Jesus is alive again? It defies understanding. Sure, Thomas' best friends told him that Jesus entered a locked room where they had gathered. There they heard Him, touched Him, and understood with joy that He was alive! But Thomas had to wait . . . eight long days. Then Thomas saw Jesus, touched Jesus, and heard His Word. He knew, and said “My Lord and My God.” Doubt drives away peace, but Christ’s Holy Word drives away doubt. This Word is our assurance, too. Listen . . .
